Job description
Overview

Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency & Referral Hospital is looking for an experienced, collaborative and professional Registered Veterinary Technician with a passion for emergency medicine to join our ER team. This position requires a driven individual with attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must be computer literate and have exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are crucial; you must be able to multitask, collaborate and communicate with co-workers efficiently, effectively and professionally.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Triage patients, assessing vitals to determine stable vs critical
  • Induction, maintenance, and recovery of companion animals
  • Knowledge of common & emergent medications
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Deliver exceptional client & patient service
  • Placement and maintenance of intravenous catheters, arterial catheters and central lines
  • Calculate CRIs, fluid additives and drug doses
  • Knowledge of fluid pumps and fluid setup, including syringe pumps and CRI administration
  • Perform imaging and laboratory diagnostics
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures under sedation and anesthesia
  • Complete treatment plans ordered for hospitalized patients
  • Filling and review of prescriptions
  • Patient discharges and client communications
Education
  • Graduate from a licensed Veterinary Technician program (required)
  • Completed the VTNE
  • In good standing or able to license with provincial licensing boards (NSVMA, EVTA)
  • Able to perform physically demanding work that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds) and constant motion
