About The Job

The Registered Nurse:

  • Provides nursing care to emergency patients, both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence-based practice in nursing practice
  • Maintains and advances own clinical competence
  • Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned

This is a permanent full-time opportunity. Shifts will be scheduled days and nights, rotating from 07:30 to 19:30 and 19:30 to 07:30 hours.

About this location / unit

Interior Health has embarked on an expansion plan to meet increasing demands, expand health services, and enhance patient care in the Okanagan. Kelowna General Hospital’s ER has been expanded as part of a new clinical academic campus for the University of BC Medical School. The department is significantly larger and includes the following zones and features:

  • Zone 1 (acute): 15 beds and 3 trauma rooms
  • CDU (clinical decision unit) beside zone 1 with 8 beds
  • Zone 2 (Urgent care/Streaming) with a large waiting room and 7 additional rooms
  • Zone 3 (Minor treatment) for suturing, casting, splinting, etc., staffed by ER Physician and LPN/Ortho tech; 10 treatment spaces
  • Heli-pad manned by BC Ambulance Service
  • Negative pressure rooms (no positive pressure)
  • 4 ambulance bays
  • 3 seclusion rooms
  • 3 bariatric rooms and 3 isolation rooms
