Qualifications

Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the Registered Nurse works between the Acute Care Unit and the Emergency Department as required; provides professional nursing care to patients as a member of a multidisciplinary team; is responsible and accountable for coordinating and administering direct patient care utilizing the nursing process; provides direction to staff and volunteers; and responds to emergency situations to safeguard patients, visitors and staff in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives professional and practice standards.

Responsibilities
  • Work between the Acute Care Unit and the Emergency Department as required and provide professional nursing care to patients as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate and administer direct patient care utilizing the nursing process; respond to emergency situations to safeguard patients, visitors and staff.
  • Provide direction to staff and volunteers in accordance with unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and professional standards.
Qualifications

Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Advanced preparation in emergency and/or obstetrics specialty training. Two (2) years\' recent related experience in medical/surgical, obstetrics, emergency/urgent care, neonatal resuscitation, emergency pediatrics or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
