Job description
The Opportunity

The Recreation Therapist role will be serving the town of Care Human Services in Grimshaw, Alberta. The Recreation Therapist is responsible for ensuring top resident care is priority, with a prominent level of focus in time management.

  • Coordinates and oversees recreational care partner planning and scheduling as per budget guidelines, including overtime and time off approval and vacation requests
  • Exhibits excellent customer (hospitality) relations by being courteous, caring, understanding, compassionate and respectful to all Care Partners
  • Ongoing monitoring and continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrates an awareness of accident and injury prevention and adheres to safe work Is mindful of the psychological health and safety of our Employee Care Partners
  • Supports the Resident’s lifestyle in their Community environment in accordance with the Resident’s individualized Care Plan as authorized by Homecare
  • Responsible for delegating, coordinating, and evaluating the delivery of recreational services based on the Resident Care Plan & Service Plan
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and coordination of recreation services & programs
  • Enforces Emergency Management Plan, Infection Control protocol, WHMIS, and Health & Safety
  • Performs other services/tasks/duties related to employee care partner role as assigned
Foundational knowledge and experience to grow from
  • As of April 2021 a Degree in Recreation Therapy, Leisure Studies, or Recreation Administration is required; prior to April 2021, ATRA recognized the academic qualifications/experience of Therapeutic Recreation diploma graduates and if ATRA membership has been maintained this is adequate for your application
  • Registered with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) is required
  • Experience in recreation programs and providing recreation therapist services is required
  • Supervision/leadership/educator/facilitation/resolution/investigation experience is required
  • Experience with proven performance in clinical practice is required
  • Obtain prior to employment, a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check
