We are hiring Recreation Leaders for Summer! Reporting to a Coordinator of Summer Recreation programs, this role involves implementing a variety of social, cultural, and recreational activities citywide. This position also includes supervising auxiliary staff, contractual instructors, and volunteers. Duties are performed within established program guidelines, but the leader exercises independent action, judgment, and initiative. The leader prepares and leads individual program plans and promotes interest and participation in program activities, special events; provides guidance, advice and referrals as required to the public; reviews program offerings and makes recommendations as to new programs; and establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public. The leader enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behavior and safety are maintained.

Activities include camps, access, outdoor playgrounds, and wading pools in the summer season, and assisting in training and direction of staff and volunteers. The leader may perform records, preparation of reports, creation of signs and promotional information, and related work as required.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College, or Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience: Ability to recruit, train, direct, evaluate volunteers, and provide guidance and instruction to part-time staff and contractual instructors.

Certificates: Driver’s License for BC, First Aid Certificate, and a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C is required.

Pay Rate

Pay Rate: $29.48 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)

Hours of Work

This is an auxiliary position. Hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and scheduled on an as needed basis. Daytime and weekend availability is an asset.
