Job summary

A senior living community in Kelowna is seeking a Recreation Aide to enhance the lives of residents through engaging activities. The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in a related field and experience working with seniors. Responsibilities include leading activities, monitoring resident progress, and assisting with transportation. The position offers a wage rate starting at $29.83 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent work experience with seniors.
  • Understanding motivation concepts in working with seniors.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class F or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise departmental procedures and programs.
  • Assist in transporting residents to and from programs.
  • Monitor residents' interests, needs, and progress.
  • Lead activities to promote social interaction among residents.
  • Maintain program and resident records.

The Recreation Aide Role

The Recreation Aide is a vital position within our communities, impacting residents' lives and fostering human connection.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Participating in developing and revising departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
  2. Setting up activity areas and assisting in transporting residents to and from programs, if required.
  3. Monitoring residents' interests, needs, and progress.
  4. Maintaining program and resident records in line with departmental policies, and reporting participation and feedback to the Team Leader.
  5. Promoting social interaction among residents by leading activities or events, assisting new residents with orientation, and encouraging socialization.
  6. Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, or related fields, or equivalent work experience with seniors.
  • Experience working with seniors, including understanding motivation concepts.
  • Knowledge of leisure principles.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class F or provincial equivalent, if driving a bus).
  • Successful passing of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario) and Criminal Records Check (British Columbia) as applicable.

Wage Rate: $29.83 per hour until wage leveling ends, after which pay will align with the collective agreement.
