Overview

Role Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced QHSE Specialist to join our team in Penticton, BC. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, overseeing and improving our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs and initiatives to promote a positive, safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Additionally, you will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining our Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The candidate should have experience in HSE and QA / QC methodologies, attention to detail, and leadership skills. The role will primarily support operations in Penticton, BC, but will assist the team in Walla Walla as needed.

Salary : $30-35 per hour

Safety Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive HSE programs and Behaviour Based Safety initiatives to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Perform regular safety inspections and audits for WSBC compliance, address employee HSE concerns, and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Provide training sessions and workshops on HSE topics.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses with the Safety Committee, recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Participate in monthly workplace inspections and JHSC meetings.
  • Ensure SDS are regularly reviewed / updated and accessible to all employees.
  • Review SOPs and hazard assessments for improvements and updates.
  • Liaise with WorksafeBC and other regulators as required.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and safety meetings as required.
  • Regularly review training requirements, maintain the training matrix, track certification expiration dates, coordinate recertification processes as necessary, and recommend enhancements to training programs.
  • Facilitate risk assessments and champion risk management.
  • Compile and review safety data to identify trends and gaps.
Quality Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Quality Management System.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, procedures, and protocols to ensure product integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize a process-based approach within the Quality Management System (QMS) framework, defining, monitoring, controlling, and continuously improving processes to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to shop floor personnel to ensure quality standards are achieved.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Production, Engineering, Materials Management and Sales / Administration to drive continuous improvement initiatives and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of quality-related issues, implementing preventive measures to minimize future occurrences.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including industry-specific requirements.
  • Foster a culture of quality and safety awareness through effective communication, training, and employee engagement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to speak, read & write English fluently
  • Post secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Quality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of relevant HSE and quality standards, such as WSBC regulations, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  • Experience developing and implementing Quality Management systems, including document control, supplier quality management, warranty claim management, and quality metrics.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards achieving common goals.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills with empathy and composure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous experience with an ERP system is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and influence stakeholders.
  • Valid BC Driver's License (Class 5) and a clean driving abstract.
  • Valid passport and the ability to travel to the US occasionally.
Compensation

Compensation : $30-$35 per hour
