This is a temporary assignment anticipated to extend to September 30, 2026, subject to the availability of work. HMMS is a joint venture between St. Joseph's Health Care, London and London Health Sciences Centre, operating since 1997 to provide consolidated functions of Sourcing, Contract Management, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Logistics, Supply Chain Systems and Inventory Management for the London Hospitals and other healthcare organizations in Southwestern Ontario. HMMS interacts with thousands of suppliers to provide an item catalog of over 90,000 active items, with roughly 5,000 stocked in our warehouse. As a Buyer supporting transactional procurement (purchasing), you will assist customers with daily supply and purchasing needs through requisition processing and purchasing, auditing spends for compliance with corporate policies, procedures, contracts, and legislative requirements. As a first point of contact, the Buyer locates and expedites orders, resolves discrepancies against purchase orders, processes product returns, and clarifies policy and procedural requirements.

This position involves daily tasks such as responding to emails, answering phone calls, responding to inquiries and relaying information, processing purchase orders, confirming orders using various technology methods, as well as contacting sites and working with internal HMMS departments.

Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with daily supply and purchasing needs through requisition processing and purchasing.
  • Audit spends for compliance with corporate policies, procedures, contracts, and legislative requirements.
  • Locate and expediate orders; resolve discrepancies against purchase orders.
  • Process product returns and clarify policy and procedural requirements.
  • Respond to emails and phone inquiries; relay information and support internal HMMS departments.
Essential Qualifications
  • Secondary (High) School Diploma
  • Graduate of a post-secondary Certificate in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or business-related program
  • Previous experience in a purchasing, accounts payable, office or retail environment
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles (e.g., accruals)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and function as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-year previous experience in a purchasing, accounts payable, or supply chain role
  • Post-secondary Diploma in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or business-related field
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing.
