Overview

Selvam Public Affairs is a new and growing GR and communications firm that supports leaders, organizations, and innovators with lobbying, PR, executive search and strategic advisory services. We are seeking a motivated Public Affairs & Communications Coordinator on a 6-month contract to support the President with operations, bizdev, communications, and client servicing. This role is well-suited for an organized, resourceful and creative self-starter who is eager to gain hands-on experience in public affairs and business development while working directly with senior decision-makers.

Responsibilities
  • Executive & Operational Support: scheduling and attending client meetings, developing templates, maintaining organized files, and supporting lobbying compliance tracking.
  • Meeting Coordination: scheduling with staffers, politicians, and clients; preparing agendas; circulating briefing materials; and tracking follow-up actions.
  • Content Creation & Distribution: drafting and managing the firm's newsletter; creating decks and visuals (PowerPoint, Canva); managing the firm's LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube accounts.
  • Event Support: assisting with planning and execution of client events, receptions, and firm-hosted initiatives.
  • Research, BizDev & Client Support: conducting political, policy, and sector-specific research; maintaining organized client files and briefing notes. Supporting BizDev activities as needed.
  • Networking & Representation: attending events to represent the firm and build stakeholder relationships.
  • Digital Marketing Support: overseeing scheduling, prep, outreach, and distribution of the firm's digital content.
  • Digital Strategy & Process Innovation: contributing to digital campaigns and exploring the use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to enhance workflow.
Qualifications
  • Required : 1 year of related professional / political experience (internships included).
  • Bachelor's / MA degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or related field (recent graduates welcome) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Canva, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and LinkedIn.
  • Familiarity with newsletter platforms (e.g., Beehiiv).
  • Ability to manage and generate deliverables independently in a fast-paced environment.
Assets (Nice-to-Have)
  • Experience with LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram content management.
  • Experience with social media or digital marketing.
  • Previous exposure to government, politics, lobbying, PR, or communications.
