Job summary

A leading company in the shipbuilding sector is seeking a Planner to ensure detailed planning aligns with Integrated Master Schedule Time Fence Rules. As a Planner, you will develop jobs and logic within build plans, support production teams, and ensure that all planning adheres to the highest quality standards. Candidates should hold a relevant post-secondary degree and have experience in a naval environment.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of planning or trade work experience, preferably in naval shipbuilding.
  • Thorough knowledge of naval repair methods is an asset.
  • Trade Certificate, Red Seal in areas such as Ironworker or Welder considered an asset.

Job description

Planner is responsible for ensuring that detailed planning is completed in accordance with the Integrated Master Schedule Time Fence Rules, maintaining the highest quality standards. Planners support the definition of work pack hierarchy, requirements, and subsequently create jobs and logic within the build plan using AVEVA. The planning output generates a networked schedule of tasks that considers scope, schedule, and budget, integrating material, technical information, and cross-functional production teams.

The Planner is expected to be proficient in utilizing a combination of the following: Production Drawings, Production Bill of Material, 3D Model, Shipbuilding Construction Techniques, Integrated Master Schedule, Integrated Test Plan, and other business management tools.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in technical, engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of planning or trade work experience, preferably in a naval shipbuilding or repair environment.
  • Interpretation of trade-related drawings.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, MS Excel, Aveva, or AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of naval repair methods is an asset.
  • Trade Certificate, Red Seal, is considered an asset in areas such as Ironworker, Metal Fabricator, Welder, or Steamfitter/Pipefitter.
  • Lean/Six Sigma White, Yellow, and Green Belts are assets.

Note: Due to the nature of work at Irving Shipbuilding, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

This position requires a full-time, in-office presence.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize contract documentation and drawings to understand work scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Create quality job packs that provide the necessary information for efficient work execution by production.
  • Ensure activity breakdown, sequence logic, and trade resource budgets for a scope of work are accurately represented in P6 and consistent with the schedule WBS.
  • Report issues with material stock levels that do not align with the planning schedule and communicate discrepancies and required actions to the Scheduling Team Lead, Planning team, Project Manager, and Supply Chain Lead.
  • Provide trade-specific support to the Planning and Production teams.
  • Maintain tracking spreadsheets to assist production and scheduling of work.
