Planning Manager – Major Infrastructure Projects

A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to join their pre-construction team in Watford. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong planner with an engineering background to shape tender programmes for landmark infrastructure projects while mentoring the next of planners.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage tender programmes and methodologies for major civil engineering projects.
• Interpret specifications and drawings, applying engineering judgement to build programmes from first principles.
• Identify risks and opportunities, preparing robust time-risk allowances and supporting tender risk registers.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, evaluating quotations and proposed methodologies.
• Lead the resource and cost loading of programmes in collaboration with the estimating team.
• Communicate programme proposals clearly to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers into planning professionals.

Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in civil engineering, with strong planning and pre-construction knowledge.
• Proven ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications independently.
• Skilled in planning software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Asta, or equivalent.
• Excellent communicator, proactive and collaborative in delivering high-quality tender submissions.
