- Business Development – Salaries typically range from $109,810 to $158,750 annually based on qualifications and experience plus a performance‑based incentive.
Location
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment requiring employees to work in the office 3 days per week (subject to change).
- This role can be performed from EDC’s Community Hub in Toronto.
- Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Team Overview
The Partnerships Group manages corporate and regional relationship management, driving results through a win‑win‑win approach with financial institutions, private‑equity firms, alternative lenders, and other private, government and association organizations. The Enterprise Partnerships team focuses on the Canadian Financial Institution team. As Partnerships Director you will oversee strategic engagement and business development with Canada’s leading financial institutions, ensuring alignment with EDC’s corporate strategy and value proposition.
What you will be doing:
- Senior‑level partnership relationship management, reporting to the Director or Enterprise Partnerships team.
- Lead the development and execution of partnership plans for key financial institution partners at the corporate level, setting direction and building alignment with EDC’s objectives.
- Motivate, delegate and participate in business results for each partnership through clear KPIs and objectives covering relevant sectors and opportunities across Canada.
- Build and maintain trust‑based relationships with senior Head Office contacts at major Canadian financial institutions aligned to EDC’s mandate to grow exporters and international trade activity.
- Engage proactively with executive sponsors and senior leaders (EVP, SVP, VPs) at both EDC and partner institutions to foster high‑level collaboration.
- Prepare briefing notes and onboarding materials for EDC executives ahead of key meetings and market visits.
- Champion high‑impact objectives with mutual corporate support from concept to adoption, inspiring cross‑functional business teams to deliver measurable results.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert for EDC’s BD financial institution partnerships, representing EDC at key market events and sharing market intelligence.
- Collaborate closely with senior internal stakeholders from business development, product, risk, compliance and operations teams to ensure progress and effective escalation management.
- Occasional business travel required to support key partnership deliverables and team needs.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in International Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of business development or B2B partner relationship management.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in international business management or corporate lending.
- Established network of senior Head Office contacts within Canadian financial institutions relevant to EDC’s mandate (commercial or corporate banking, risk management, and international trade).
- Experience leading corporate‑level initiatives in a matrixed environment with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong strategic mindset, influencing skills, and relationship management.
- Deep understanding of EDC’s lines of business, value proposition and mandate.
What will make you stand out:
- Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation.
- Knowledge of financial institution credit and lending practices, especially within corporate banking/national accounts.
- Knowledge of international business practices and international trade.
- Bilingual in both official languages (English and French).
- Business development experience driving partnership deliverables.
- Experience in B2B partnership management, including corporate‑level negotiations, strategy development, new opportunity or co‑creation, and KPI or target setting and adoption.
