Overview

Operations Supervisor – Full-time

Location: Fredericton, NB

As an Operations Supervisor, supervise overall dock operations (drivers and dock), including day to day processes and procedures, to ensure safety and optimal dock performance. This position is critical to customer service and key to ensuring that on-time service requirements are being met.

How You’ll Help
  • Leadership
    • Provide daily guidance and motivation to Dock Workers (employees and agency workers), Administration staff and Drivers (company and broker drivers) to ensure achievement of operational objectives for the terminal.
    • Escalates issues of individual poor performance, inappropriate behaviour, absenteeism, etc. to the Terminal / Operations Manager in a timely manner.
    • Communicates monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance.
  • Legislative Compliance
    • Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation.
    • Ensure all incidents (personal injuries, transportation collisions, spills, near misses, etc.) are promptly reported, documented, an investigation is initiated and corrective / preventative measures are implemented.
    • Hold effective, weekly tailgate / toolbox meetings and ensure safety issues are addressed.
  • Operational Performance
    • Works with the team and others, internal and external to the terminal, to resolve roadblocks to achievement of daily operational objectives.
    • Ensure the schedule for the terminal is followed.
    • Works with the Terminal / Operations Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock.
Your Skills & Experience
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in operations, logistics, or business
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of five years experience in the transportation industry or warehousing industry, preferably dock operations
  • Previous leadership experience and / or experience in the transportation industry are strong assets
  • Computer literate in Excel and Word
  • Equipment knowledge is an asset
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel & Word; experience with AS400, an asset; ability to learn new programs
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to implement proactive solutions to support operational demands and efficiencies
  • Results focused; Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline driven environment; appropriate sense of urgency
  • Must be a self starter; Sound judgement and business acumen in developing and successfully implementing strategies to achieve corporate objectives; strong long- and short-term strategic planning skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills to manage demands and resolve issues with dock workers, drivers, coworkers, etc.
  • Knowledge of industry-related equipment, including forklifts, lift jacks, trailers, etc. a strong asset
  • Superior interpersonal & communication skills; direct, clear and professional presentation of information and the ability to relay information (verbal and written) between several parties to deliver a positive customer experience
  • Must be able to work under a flexible work schedule
  • Must be a hands-on operator, trainer, coach and mentor
  • Must be able to build and maintain relationships
