Overview
Type of employment: Permanent, rotating 2 weeks in, 2 weeks out (days and nights) to support Artemis Gold, Blackwater Assay Lab. Accommodations, meals and shuttle bus provided.

Role Summary
This position will carry out various routine preparation, testing and analysis, following written work instructions under the direction of the Supervisor / Senior Assayer.
This job description applies to employees working in the Digestion, Instrumentation, Fire Assay, and Sample Reduction / Preparation departments.
Responsibilities
- Sample reception, sample identification, sample preparation (sorting, drying, crushing, pulverizing, screening), sample weighing, fire assay (fluxing with lead flux, fusing, cupelling), sample digestion with acids, sample dilutions, sample determinations, setting up analytical batches and analysis, batch Quality Control.
- Ensure samples are logged into LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) accurately and in a quick manner.
- Working knowledge of LIMS.
- Ensure samples are catalogued and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner.
- Assists in locating and retrieving of samples and responsible for sample disposal or returning samples to clients.
- Calibration and set up of laboratory equipment prior to analysis.
- Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
- Preparation of standards and reagents.
- Interpreting and evaluating results.
- Monitor Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
- Carry out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of the supervisor.
- Complete and maintain accurate, up to date work order documentation and logs in every respect.
- Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies.
- Maintains a clean working environment which includes proper disposal of waste, including lead, cyanide and acid.
- Organize and label waste disposal.
- Follow all Quality system protocols, report discrepancies to the Supervisor.
- May be asked to work in other areas of the laboratory sections.
- May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications
- A post secondary education (degree and / or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science) is a strong asset.
- Strong analytical and mechanical skills.
- Good hand / eye coordination.
- Able to work in a physically demanding work environment.
- A willingness to learn new tests, instrumentation and procedures.
- Must be comfortable with numerals in order to monitor data on a computer screen.
- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
- Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
- Must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition. Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Extended hours and shift work.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
