What we offer

In accordance with the high standards and integrity of the Mattamy organization, as well as adherence to generally accepted building practices, the New Home Technician (handyperson) actively supports the Company Mission of The Best Homeowner Experience by performing required repairs to deficiency items prior to Homeowner possession. The New Home Technician strives to use efficient and high quality results, as well as a strong customer service orientation throughout every touch point with the home and the Homeowner.

Successful applicants will need to be a member of Carpenters Union Local 93 in good standing, or ready and able to become a member of Carpenters Union Local 93 to accept this role.

What you’ll do
Pre‑Occupancy responsibilities
  • Fix and eliminate deficiency items before Certification of Completion and Pre‑Delivery Inspections, including preparation for occupancy inspection.
  • Coordinate repair of deficiency items listed on Certificate of Completion and Possession, with Builder (and homeowner), before (and after) closing.
  • Identify and assess construction deficiencies and perform repairs in a timely manner.
  • Prepare homes for inspection by City for occupancy, insulation and framing.
  • Perform drywall checkouts as required for each home.
  • Ensure complete clean‑up of home, inside and outside, prior to QA and CCP.
  • Perform visual inspection of exterior home to assess state of completion.
  • Provide excellent customer service to colleagues, Trades and Homeowners.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Providing a list of required materials and supplies to direct supervisor on weekly basis.
  • Meet regularly with direct supervisor at designated times to discuss completed work and work to be assigned to trades.
  • Review work orders on a proactive and daily basis.
  • Develop a constructive and helpful working relationship with homeowners.
  • Perform all duties in safe manner.
  • Utilize technology in all aspects of work including BuildPro Systems, Microsoft Office (email), and Company issued cellphones.
What you bring
  • Completion of High school education level or higher is preferred but not required.
  • Basic arithmetic skills, for example, in taking measurements, is essential.
  • Several years’ experience in residential/ commercial construction industry, or experience in the renovations / repairs business.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in multiple trades functions such as carpentry, drywall, painting, etc. is a requirement, as is knowledge of various tools and equipment.
  • Comfortable in the use of technology – smartphones, tablets or computers to record, review and communicate information.
  • Must have the ability to read and write accurately in the English language.
  • Flexible, with the willingness and ability to travel daily to assigned sites and to work at locations across the division.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, regular access to a vehicle and provide own tools.

Compensation

Successful applicants will be required to become a member of Carpenters Union in good standing. Compensation and benefits will be in accordance with the collective agreement, which includes a wage range of $20.87- $34.77 and benefits through Carpenters 93.
