At Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, we are reshaping how surplus food supports communities across the nation. We don’t just rescue food; we rescue hope, connection, and sustainability.

Your experience in volunteer management and program coordination equips you to grow and support a vibrant network of volunteers. If you’re ready to bring your expertise to a mission-driven organization making a tangible difference in the lives of Canadians, this is your chance.

Think we're just about redirecting food surplus? Think bigger.

Here’s why Second Harvest is your next career leap:

  • Pioneers in food rescue, we are a renowned leader in perishable food redistribution across Canada.
  • With a mission fueled by a no-waste, no-hunger ethos, we're not just changing the game—we're rewriting the rules.
  • Our strategic approach aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making every day a step towards global change.

The Role:

As the National Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, you will drive the strategy to engage volunteers across Canada and support the growth of our national volunteer program, including recruitment, screening, selection, coordination, supervision and stewardship of volunteers. You will work closely with field operations staff, corporate partners, and community groups to ensure volunteer engagement activities are well-executed and meet Second Harvest’s high-quality standards for the volunteer experience.

Your Impact:

  • Recruit, screen, train, and supervise national volunteers as Second Harvest’s volunteer program expands nationally.
  • Maintain an active and engaged roster of community-based volunteers in key markets to support department goals.
  • Act as liaison between Field Operations staff and volunteers.
  • Provide volunteers with feedback, monitor satisfaction, and resolve concerns promptly.
  • Oversee data entry of national volunteers and placements into Raiser’s Edge.
  • Participate in cross-department meetings as required to remain apprised of volunteer requirements.
  • Ensure volunteers are appreciated and stewarded to maintain a large and dedicated base.
  • Support strategic planning by assessing and evaluating the Volunteer Program for efficiency and national growth.

Event Support (30%):

  • Lead the planning and in-person execution of volunteer logistics for national Second Harvest events, community events and food collections, including Snack Packing and Nourishing Notes.
  • Assist with planning and execution of national corporate volunteer engagement events.
  • Provide support with planning and day-of logistics for National Volunteer Week activities and volunteer appreciation events.

Administrative (10%):

  • Contribute to monthly/quarterly reports based on KPI’s and support annual reports that include volunteer hours, number of volunteers, and program outcomes.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support organizational goals.

Who You Are:

  • Partnership-Minded: you are a people person who can leverage relationships to build program success.
  • Detail-Oriented: you take pride in your work and quality matters.
  • Energized: you are ready to take on new tasks and enjoy doing it.
  • Flexible: you adapt to change and grow.
  • Technical: proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Raiser’s Edge.
  • Bilingual: English and French is an asset.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector with volunteer services programs and event management.
  • Post-secondary education in volunteer management, human resources, social work, or a related field is preferred.

About the Perks:

  • A competitive salary paired with a robust benefits package.
  • Professional growth in a role that makes a real difference.
  • Flexible work hours and a commitment to work-life balance.
