Job Description
Summary
Performs analysis on finished products, raw materials or packaging materials following established methods and Thermo Fisher Scientific Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Performs lab functions such as media preparations, culture maintenance, microbial count, pathogen screening, routine instrument calibrations/maintenance, environmental testing and micro assay testing.
Responsibilities
- Media preparation and growth promotion testing.
- Document all tests, test materials/equipment used and all results obtained.
- Conduct water testing and environmental monitoring.
- Culture maintenance and microbial identification.
- Perform equipment maintenance/calibration.
- Assist with lab cleaning, equipment cleaning, and glassware cleaning.
- Assist with incoming sample management.
- Report fillings, scanning and archiving as required.
- Perform all work in a safe manner and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
- Perform alternating or rotating shift work including weekends or after hours as required.
Required Qualifications
- Education: College/Technical School diploma/degree in Microbiology or in a related field. B.Sc. in Microbiology or in a related science field is an asset.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year demonstrated microbiology laboratory experience. Experience with SAP/LIMS (an asset).
- Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work well independently and in a team environment with limited supervision. Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices. Understanding of SOPs. Good understanding of safety standards. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs Outlook, Excel, Word. Proficiency with the English language.

Physical Requirements
Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about lab/lab office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, latex or similar gloves, safety apron, organic respirator occasionally.
