Job summary

A government entity in Northwest Territories is seeking a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor in Tulita. You will provide community-based, culturally sensitive counselling services for mental health, addictions, and family violence. Qualifications

Job description
Overview

We are looking to fill positions in Tulita and Fort Good Hope. The Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor is a key member of the Primary Community Care Team (PCC) providing direct, community based, culturally sensitive, mental health, addictions, and family violence counselling services to clients.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide prevention and promotion initiatives; planning and delivery of community based mental health, addictions, and family violence therapeutic counselling services; case management; and providing crisis response, supported living, consumer self-help and vocational/education services.

  • Serve as a key referral agent and service provider for complex addictions, family violence, and psychiatric clients who may be referred for inpatient treatment or other services outside of the community.


Key Requirements


  • A Master\'s Degree in a social science field with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant counselling experience in addictions, mental health, and/or family violence

  • OR

  • A Bachelor\'s Degree in social sciences with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant counselling experience in addictions, mental health, and/or family violence

  • OR

  • A Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant counselling experience in addictions, mental health, and/or family violence


Additional Experience Requirements


  • Experience must include clinically supervised education or work under a qualified clinical counselling supervisor

  • A minimum of 500 supervised hours, with at least 120 hours of direct client contact

  • Remaining hours should include:

    • Face-to-face supervision

    • Educational activities

    • Documentation and reporting

    • Professional development and training
