Job Description
Location: Hybrid

As the New Business and Underwriting Shared Services Manager, you will be overseeing day-to-day operations for Tele-Interview, Training and Development and our vendor teams. Your role is vital in cultivating a client-focused environment and ensuring operational excellence. Reporting to the Director of New Business and Underwriting Shared Services, you’ll make a significant impact by ensuring the employees are coached, developed and skilled to meet the New Business operations performance targets. What will you do?
  • Communicate effectively with all sites, ensuring a consistent experience for the representatives and members, as well as communicate with external vendors to meet business needs
  • Help to build and establish a new Training and Development team for all of New Business and Underwriting, ensure all employees have detailed documentation and tools to build their progression plans and understand the paths to grow their career
  • Take on functional lead for certain tasks/ New Business initiatives across the enterprise as needed
  • Interact directly with clients and advisors, as required
  • Manage team performance daily ensuring the service and quality objectives are being attained and maintained on a consistent basis
  • Seek out data to analyze metrics and act intraday and proactively on emerging issues.
  • Ensure staff are equipped with the knowledge, training, experience, tools and technology needed to achieve the required business results
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the Team Lead to develop their competencies and position them for success
  • Foster a work environment that values the people and encourages participation, creativity, learning and accountability
  • Responsible for employee recruitment to meet business objectives
  • Partner with other areas to promote understanding and knowledge exchange between business units
  • Identify, develop & maintain opportunities for process and system improvements and manage process and system improvement projects where appropriate. For larger projects and/or those with an IT component, partner with Best Practices team by participating as the Subject Matter Exert on project teams
What do you need to succeed?
  • 4+ years of leadership experience
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills and someone who can influence leaders and teams across business area boundaries to collaborate towards achieving outcomes with strong buy-in and support, including external vendors
  • A relentless and demonstrated ability to find customer service and efficiency opportunities
  • Problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills that consider the interests of the client and the company
  • Proven skills analyzing data to make sound, data driven decisions
  • Experience managing results along with superior time management skills
  • Ability to influence change and build relationships
  • Ability to navigate through reporting
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of statistical models & analysis
  • University degree or 4-6 years of related work experience
  • LOMA and/or ALU certifications are an asset
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
