Our team is growing and Seaspan is looking for a Human Resources Manager to support our Operations Team.

The Human Resources (HR) Manager serves as trusted partner to operational leaders within a complex, unionized manufacturing environment and will have to manage client groups with both union and non-union workforce.

The Human Resources (HR) Manager is responsible for leading HR in supporting the business through strategic and tactical human resources initiatives. This role ensures alignment of HR strategies with business objectives and provides expert advice on HR policies and programs. The HR Manager plays a key role in driving performance management, employee engagement, and development processes across the organization while maintaining a consistent application of HR policies and best practices. Reporting to the Director Human Resources, the HR Manager collaborates with senior leadership to meet business needs and foster effective relationships with business leaders, driving continuous improvement, and supporting company‑wide HR strategies.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on‑site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. After 90 days of onsite work and onboarding, this position will allow to work from home 1 day per week.

What you'll do
  • Leads the execution of HR programs and ensure their alignment with the company’s business goals, working in collaboration with HR centers of expertise.
  • Provides strategic HR consulting, guidance and support to business leaders in implementing HR policies, processes, and best practices across all business units.
  • Drives workforce planning at the Business Unit level, ensuring HR strategies meet evolving business needs.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders to drive continuous improvement in HR processes and practices.
  • Acts as a strategic advisor to business leaders, offering insight and coaching on performance management, organizational development, and other HR initiatives.
  • Oversees the resolution of complex HR issues, such as employee relations cases, and partners with legal and compliance teams as necessary.
  • Manages the interface between the business and HR, ensuring the smooth delivery of services provided by the functional HR areas.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor and consultant for talent planning, succession planning, and change management initiatives.
  • Serves as a role model for HR Business Partners, providing leadership and guidance. The HR Manager also performs salary reviews and performance reviews.
  • Engages with business leaders to identify HR needs and work closely with HR centers of expertise to address them.
  • Oversees the implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads efforts to enhance employee engagement and foster a positive workplace culture across business units.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • CPHR designation or working towards it is an asset.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive HR experience in complex environments, including roles as a Senior Advisor, Consultant, or Senior Generalist.
  • In‑depth knowledge of HR best practices and how to implement them effectively within the business.
  • Strong consulting and advisory skills to support business leaders in executing HR strategies.
  • Proven leadership and critical thinking skills, with the ability to solve complex problems and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders while balancing the needs of the business and HR.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to align HR initiatives with broader business objectives.
  • Ability to navigate federal and provincial employment legislation, including the Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Equity Act, and the Canada Labour Code.
  • Customer‑service oriented with a results‑driven approach.

The estimated salary for this position is $135,000 - $165,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
