Litigation and Insolvency Legal Administrative Assistant – Calgary

Lawson Lundell LLP is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to join our Litigation and Insolvency group in our Calgary office. The successful candidate is an enthusiastic and hardworking team player. Regular working hours for this role are Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents from dictation, handwritten notes, and precedent materials
  • Draft and file pleadings along with other required court documentation
  • Schedule appointments, court dates, questionings, and mediations
  • Maintain and organize paper and electronic files
  • Open, close, and maintain client files and file lists
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with clients
  • Manage bring-forward and tracking systems for limitation and follow-up dates
  • Monitor and meet all deadlines and limitation periods
  • Handle all incoming and outgoing mail
  • Review, organize, and file email correspondence
  • Answer client calls and respond to general inquiries
  • Record time entries and prepare pre-bills and invoices
  • Provide overflow support and perform general administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications
  • Experience with insolvency is required
  • Legal Administrative Assistant certification from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience as a Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant
  • Knowledge of general litigation rules and procedures is required
  • Knowledge of Court of King’s Bench, Commercial List, and Court of Appeal systems, procedures and rules is required
  • Deliver exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Take initiative with a proactive and accountable approach
  • Excel in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborate effectively within a team and work independently when required
  • Organize workflows and manage time efficiently
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities while maintaining a strong work ethic
  • Build positive relationships through strong interpersonal skills
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in verbal and written English
