Type: Full Time; Permanent

Wage: $36 per hour + $0.50 shift premium for afternoons

Shifts: Thursday & Friday 3:00pm - 11:00pm; Saturday & Sunday 7:00am - 5:00pm

Summary

The Technician IV performs major and technically difficult diagnostics, repairs, and overhauls/rebuilds in a timely manner; ensuring quality, time standards, customer expectations, cost guidelines and reliability goals are met. The T4 mentors other Ryder technicians and provides leadership, development and training. The T4 may specialize in areas such as refrigeration, electronics, exhaust systems, etc., and should possess a combination of extensive vehicle transportation experience, ASE certifications, and/or multiple Ryder Qualifications.

Essential Functions

  • PERFORMS VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR DUTIES
    • Performs standard vehicle maintenance
    • Performs preventive maintenance
    • Performs complex repairs with minimal support
    • Accesses and uses internal and external maintenance documents
    • Diagnoses and repairs complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support using diagnostic computers/software when applicable
    • Performs remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
  • INTERACTS WITH CUSTOMERS/DRIVERS
    • Instructs and advises other technicians regarding maintenance procedures and diagnostics
    • Coaches/Mentors other level technicians
    • Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
  • Performs facility maintenance duties
  • Utilizes Shop Management System and electronic documentation
  • Complies with all federal/provincial and corporate safety guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)

Additional Responsibilities

  • Tire and Wheel Maintenance: tire and wheel safety training within 90 days; repair and replace tire and wheel assemblies; diagnose tire-related ride quality issues; perform failure analysis
  • Preventive Maintenance: PM trained within 90 days; mentor technicians; conduct quality inspections
  • Brakes - Air: brake work within 90 days; inspect and replace components; meet FMCS standards; perform diagnostics
  • Brakes - Hydraulic: hydraulic brake training within 90 days; maintenance and inspection
  • Air Conditioning/Refrigeration: certifications within 90-180 days; system checks, leaks, charging and testing
  • Cargo Handling/Liftgates: diagnostics and repair of liftgate components
  • Electrical Systems: include charging, cranking, lighting and related subsystems; diagnose and repair
  • Drive Trains, including axles, drive line, diesel/gas engines, fuel systems, cooling, steering, suspension, and related components
  • Decision Making: responsible for decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair

  • Strong mechanical skills with proficiency in diagnostics, overhaul and repair; ability to road test vehicles as necessary

Qualifications
