The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 408 St. Joseph's Collective Agreement.
Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or a recognized equivalent. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum 1 year of recent Long-Term Care and/or Acute Care nursing experience. Basic understanding of palliative care principles, including pain management, symptom control, and end-of-life support. Strong clinical skills and the ability to perform nursing tasks with precision and care. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic support and work effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Ability to manage complex care needs and respond effectively to changes in patient conditions. Physically able to complete all demanding aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending, lifting, assuming awkward positions and standing for long durations of time. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English.
Preferred Qualifications: Palliative care, hospice, or related healthcare experience. Certification or training in Palliative Care Nursing (e.g., Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN)). Experience with Connect Care. Knowledge of Alberta’s regulations and best practices for palliative care. Advanced skills in symptom management and providing emotional and spiritual support.
