About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Housekeeping Services, the Lead Hand Utility Worker maintains a consistently clean, safe environment with emphasis on heavy duty assignments. The incumbent acts as a team leader and liaison between front line Housekeeping staff and Management staff. The Lead Hand Utility Worker issues directions and work tasks, ensuring tasks are completed. Activities will also include cleaning, mopping and dusting all areas in the hospital. Other work would include floor care (scrubbing and waxing floors), delegating or performing post discharge bed cleaning, shampooing of carpets and chairs, waste removal (hazardous waste and regular waste), chemical spill cleanup, laundry tasks, room set-ups, window cleaning (interior), some salt application during winter months, isolation room cleaning, flood and blood spill clean ups.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent work experience
  • One year housekeeping experience
  • Previous hospital experience an asset
  • Ability to lead, follow direction and to problem solve
  • Knowledge of Housekeeping products; WHMIS symbols, classes and divisions
  • Effective communication skills
  • Participate in the training of new staff
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Shifts are 4:00pm-12:00am Rotation of weekends and includes holidays. During staff shortages filling in work areas may be required
Compensation and Benefits

$23.07 - $25.16 Hourly
