A healthcare organization in Alberta is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist II to coordinate laboratory operations and quality control. The role involves leading teams, optimizing systems, and providing technical support. Candidates should hold a Medical Laboratory Technology diploma and be registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta. The position allows remote work within Alberta with occasional travel for on-site support.
This position’s primary role is to support APL with Connect Care optimization. Reporting directly to APL’s Connect Care and Related Projects Lead, this position works collaboratively with Digital Health teams & the Health Shared Services (HSS) Laboratory Systems IT team. Such activities may include but certainly not limited to: information gathering, working with HSS Lab IT to assist with optimization/upgrades and assisting APL with testing, fixes, presentations, and continuing to support laboratory standardization within the CIS. The Laboratory Information Specialist will lead, coordinate and deliver/implement assigned projects. They provide expertise within their laboratory professional role and provides direction to clients within its specialty function and scope. The position develops and manages various initiatives and provides ongoing client leadership and optimization between individuals, lab departments, sites, and programs for the design, build, implementation, and optimization cycles for APL. The Laboratory Information Specialist also works as a liaison among stakeholders to understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization, and to recommend solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. This involves interpreting client needs, assessing requirements and identifying solutions to non-standard issues and requests, providing advice and direction to clients, and contributing to solutions by providing input into strategy, coordination, testing and delivery for assigned projects and programs. Work will primarily be conducted remotely; however occasional travel may be required for on-site support.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or be the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Graduate of an approved school of Medical Laboratory Technology or Science required. Current registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). A minimum of 5 years current experience in a Laboratory is required. Current and proficient use of Epic Beaker, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 is required. Recent experience in leading/supervising/facilitating projects or implementation activities is required. Ability to learn new material quickly & adapt to change. Comfort with technology and the ability to quickly master new software programs. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to promote the change process in a positive manner. Experience and comfort in problem solving and conflict resolution.
