Job Description
Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician in a permanent full-time position to join our team of skilled professionals based at our Calgary AB Plant. This state-of-the-art manufacturing plant produces premium roofing shingles in a high speed, continuous, asphalt shingle manufacturing process environment.

Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a quality plan to drive continuous improvement in plant performance, and assuring that finished product complies with company, industry and government standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform tests in the Laboratory on key parameters associated with the quality assurance of finished products
  • Monitors the quality of finished products in Real time, resolves with production team and escalates quality issues on a timely basis
  • Monitors quality impact of new production processes, methods, or equipment
  • Implements ongoing quality improvement processes and procedures working with interdepartmental teams and with the involvement of the production employees
  • Support the development and implementation of a quality plan to drive continuous improvement in plant performance
  • Measures quality assurance metrics to opportunities for improvement, progress on goals and accountability for performance
  • Identifies, troubleshoots and drives resolution of production quality deficiencies and problems
  • Escalate quality assurance issues to the Quality team and Plant management on a timely basis
  • Ensures that the Lab equipment is calibrated and in good condition and communicates material and spare requirements in advance
  • Collates and analyses performance data and charts against defined parameters
  • Works with shipping to ensure that outgoing products are sorted segregated, isolated and downgraded as per disposition from the quality team
  • Be able to lift 25lbs. The person may be required to move a bundle of shingles with 60lbs on a trolley, this task is usually done with assistance
Education
  • Diploma or Degree in a Science related field
Qualifications
  • Experience in an industrial process manufacturing environment in a quality assurance role with hands‑on experience with quality management systems preferred
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a Laboratory environment and calibrating troubleshooting instruments will be an asset
