About the Role

As an Accountant under our Business Services Group, you will be responsible to maintain proper ledgers, registers, accounts, journals as well as similar financial records. In this role, you will regularly collaborate with members of Brookfield’s Business Services Group Accounting team and support the Senior Accountant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process for a portfolio of companies;
    • Process cash transactions;
    • Prepare bank deposits;
    • Prepare general journal entries;
    • Prepare bank and other general ledger account reconciliations;
    • Calculate and execute intercompany cost allocations;
    • Prepare and issue external customer invoices;
  • Prepare and file Canadian and US sales tax returns;
  • Support interim and year-end audit procedures;
  • Prepare budget and forecast inputs;
  • Propose process improvements;
  • Participate in non-routine project assignments on an ad hoc basis
Knowledge and Experience Required
  • At least 6 months experience performing full-cycle accounting
  • Substantial completion of a post-secondary certificate/diploma or undergraduate degree focused on Accounting;
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines, particularly around month and quarter end close;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize competing responsibilities while working in a very fast paced, dynamic, high volume team environment;
  • Strong problem-solving skills are required;
  • Strong communication skills are required;
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when needed at quarter end or during peak periods;
  • Experience with financial applications such IFS, Blackline, IT2, OneStream or similar systems is an asset;
  • Strong MS Excel skills (including vlookup and pivot tables) is required.
  • Experience in working in a public listed companies (in US or Canada) will be considered an asset.

Note: Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfield’s identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days to perform most effectively. We will reassess the approach on an as needed basis.
