Job description
Key Accountabilities
  • Act as Engineer of Record (EoR) for electric substation projects, collaborating with design technologists to produce detailed designs, material lists, and construction packages in support of the capital plan.
  • Fulfil the role of Owner’s Engineer for projects where design and engineering services are contracted externally, serving as a technical point of contact to ensure consultants deliver project scope in accordance with standards, practices, and schedules.
  • Perform or oversee advanced engineering calculations, technical analyses, and data‑driven evaluations, applying sound engineering judgment to support critical decision‑making.
  • Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and co‑op students by promoting safe engineering practices, reviewing and authenticating work for accuracy and compliance, and supporting professional development through mentorship.
  • Manage a portfolio of minor to moderately complex projects across varying scopes and sizes, maintaining strong organization, anticipating risks, and ensuring high‑quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, project management, and operations teams throughout design development and project execution.
  • Manage engineering project controls, including budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, and risk analysis.
  • Provide engineering support during construction activities.
  • Lead engineering close‑out activities to ensure project completion and documentation requirements are met.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of design criteria, materials, and processes through suppliers, technical literature, and participation in industry organizations and conferences.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing knowledge, participating in technical discussions, and supporting design evolution across the team.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in electric substation engineering and project management within a utility, industrial, engineering, or construction environment.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
Technical Competencies (Role‑Specific)
  • Strong knowledge of station, transmission, and distribution components and their functions within an electrical utility environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in substation design principles and engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of multi‑disciplinary engineering and construction concepts.
  • Experience with project processes and project execution.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with commonly used software including AutoCAD, MS Office, Primavera, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with engineering analysis software such as CDGES, CymeTCC, ETAP, Polywater, or equivalent tools.
