Elementary Coach/Teacher/Tutor Wanted

Eager to help students succeed in English and/or math?

Gain valuable teaching experience!Oxford Learning South Surrey is currently seeking part‑time teacher‑tutors for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys writing and editing, can do math up to Grade 8, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas. Our program helps students with academic struggles while also developing cognitive skills – a love of teaching students HOW to learn is a must!

The Role:

You will not be required to lesson plan or create learning materials for students – we do that for you! Your role includes reporting on concepts covered and cognitive skills discussed, monitoring and reporting on student progress, and ensuring student programming moves at an appropriate pace, all during your shift. You will never be expected to bring work home.

All classes at Oxford Learning take place during after‑school hours, from 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm or 8:00 pm.

The Successful Applicant is:
  • Available a minimum of two evenings per week beginning at 3:30 pm
  • Comfortable working with students who work and learn “outside of the box” – this includes students who have ADHD, Autism, MID, Dyslexia, and a variety of LDs
  • Not afraid to take risks and ask questions
  • Able to commute to the centre in Surrey reliably to work in‑person (this is NOT an online position – relocation packages are not available)
  • Able to provide a clear vulnerable sector check before working with students
Must Haves:
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field (third and fourth year university students with tutoring experience will be considered)
  • Ability to dynamically teach English (or math as needed) to students in grades 3‑8
  • Experience teaching or tutoring
  • Native English speaking: excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time
  • Ability to guide students’ understanding of a variety of concepts
  • Ability to stay calm and professional at all times
Nice to Haves:
  • Teaching certification in BC
  • French written and oral communication skills
  • Comfort with teaching high school students
