A First Nation governed educational institution in Canada is seeking a part-time Instructor to deliver programs in health care education. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has significant clinical experience. Responsibilities include facilitating hands-on and online instruction while promoting student success in an inclusive environment. This position involves both classroom and remote teaching, contributing to curriculum development and fostering positive student relationships.
Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT serves over 2,400 students annually across urban and community programs and supports over 6,000 clients through nine Career Centres across the province. Nature and Scope: Instructors report directly to their applicable Program Coordinator and are located across the province in various educational settings. The incumbent instructs SIIT students in the classroom, laboratory or shop environments and assists during consultation hours. This position will require both online and in-person instruction. This role will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT’s vision, mission and mandate.
As the educational leader in the classroom, Instructors deliver SIIT programs and curricula to promote student success. The Instructor will interact with cutting-edge technologies that support Virtual Health Care, including telerobotic ultrasonography, and teach foundation knowledge in Health Care Systems, Safe Environments, Health Office Procedures and Basic Anatomy to support daily tasks in Virtual Health Care. Instruction will be delivered in a variety of formats, including hands-on, online instruction and asynchronous components. The Instructor will play a crucial role in curriculum development and resource building. Some evening instruction and flexible hours are required. Working collaboratively as a team of educational professionals, Instructors will foster a creative and positive learning environment at SIIT.
Instructors are expected to stay current with developments in their subject area, instructional resources and methods, and adapt instructional plans to meet student needs. They plan, organize and implement instructional activities that create a learning environment conducive to student success. The position includes the following broad areas of accountability:
Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and is a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS). Minimum 5 years of full-time clinical practice experience in medical-surgical, pediatrics/labor and delivery, and/or long term care/residential settings is required. Experience with a learning management system, such as Brightspace is highly preferred. For success in this position a genuine commitment to help students learn and succeed is required.
Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations; understanding of adult learning theories and principles; knowledge of innovative trends in healthcare technology; knowledge of current healthcare systems in Northern or remote communities.
As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT’s Alcohol and Substances policy.
