About the role

The CI&TS Packaging Expert has extensive experience to drive innovation, sustainability, quality, and safety in our packaging solutions. This role will be integral in developing and implementing our packaging strategy that aligns with Barry Callebaut’s sustainability commitments while ensuring optimal performance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. He/She will bring deep expertise and leadership in packaging development, process optimization, and strategic planning.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the development of a packaging portfolio strategy.
  • Identify packaging needs from business / market / customer needs and transform them into innovation opportunities for Barry Callebaut through the Innovation funnel.
  • Explore and monitor new innovation possibilities of various (packaging) suppliers and use these to drive step changes in quality, sustainability or ways of working.
  • Translate (complex) packaging challenges in a defined need for new materials / capabilities & investments (business case).
  • Define, design and implement holistically (innovative) packaging concepts, taking all internal / external factors into account.
  • Lead cross functional teams & external stakeholders to meet the needs of business, customers and consumers.
  • Drive the implementation of high-impact projects on BC production line(s).
  • Be a SPOC in one or several packaging families / topics, in the region and beyond (through our Focus groups).
  • Train people on current processes, packaging concepts and packaging / product quality requirements.
About you
  • Technical degree in science or engineering (packaging) or equivalent by experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of development and launch of packaging concepts in an industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of packaging, (partly) acquired in the food industry
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong analytical and conceptual reasoning skills
  • Experience in packaging performance testing, quality control, and compliance standards
  • Proficiency in packaging software and technical analysis tools
  • Proficiency in French and English, additional languages are a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple complex objectives/projects autonomously
  • Knowledge of packaging trends, materials, and (sustainable) regulations
  • Ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement in packaging solutions
  • Ability to translate ideas and concepts into a business presentation
  • Ability to influence R&D peers (without direct leadership) and Director/VP functions
  • Ability to work in multifunctional/multicultural teams
