Job summary

A community services organization is seeking an Indigenous Homelessness Community Administrator to oversee and collaborate on homelessness services in Thunder Bay. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of homelessness initiatives and socio-economic conditions within urban Indigenous communities, alongside strong organizational and communication skills. This position requires a commitment to maintaining confidentiality, flexibility in work hours, and a valid Ontario driver’s license.

Overview

The Indigenous Homelessness Community Administrator is responsible for supporting the effective and efficient administration of Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy activities and services, in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures. Responsibilities include planning, implementation, and administration, including third party contractual administration, of Reaching Home activities and networking with community partners. This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, and coordinate services and support in consultation with partnering agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Preferred post-secondary diploma in Social Services or Administration field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of homelessness initiatives and socio-economic conditions in the urban Indigenous community of Thunder Bay; specific knowledge of the Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on Indigenous engagement and community development; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proposal writing skills.
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in a diverse environment. Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands. Must possess strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting.
  • Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word including database applications and Excel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, possibly evenings and/or weekends.
  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment.
  • Have a valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Salary

Salary: $65,000 per annum
