The salary range for this position is CAD $45.48 / Hr. – CAD $65.38 / Hr.

Job Summary

Come work as a Human Resources Labour Relations Advisor with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

This role provides human resource and labour relations consultation, advice, and support in a dynamic health care environment. It promotes a consultative and problem-solving labour relations approach with Operations Leaders, Union partners, and staff by providing guidance on collective agreements, legislation, policies, and procedures. The position involves developing collaborative relationships, influencing decision-making, and offering strategic advice on workforce optimization strategies, all while maintaining current knowledge of relevant laws and practices.

This position will be based out of Powell River with office hours at qathet General Hospital.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Consulting with managers and directors on operational issues to meet strategic goals.
  2. Providing advice on performance management, discipline, leave management, and other HR matters.
  3. Utilizing expertise in collective agreements and employment law to advise on operational decisions.
  4. Investigating labour relations issues and developing policies to ensure consistent practices.
  5. Managing employee grievances and disputes, including resolution and legal proceedings.
  6. Promoting constructive union-management relations through respectful communication.
  7. Assessing workforce models and analyzing data for operational improvements.
  8. Monitoring organizational trends and maintaining records on labour relations activities.
  9. Staying current with legislation, collective agreements, and HR practices.
  10. Participating in industry groups and forums to keep abreast of trends.
  11. Participating in contingency planning for work stoppages and essential services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • University degree in a related field and/or a Human Resources certificate.
  • Five (5) years of recent experience in a unionized environment or equivalent.
  • Membership with CPHR BC & YK is an asset.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of employment legislation and case law.
  • Understanding of HR management principles and practices.
  • Effective relationship-building skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Negotiation, mediation, and facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
