Job description :

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Homemaker to join the team of professionals at RNS Health Care. As a homemaker, your primary responsibility will be to create a comfortable and nurturing environment within the household. You will perform a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the home and support the well-being of the clients.

Who We are Looking For
  • This role requires an individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and their families.
  • Must be available between the hours of 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
  • Must have reliable transportation; this includes a valid Ontario Driver’s License, reliable access to a vehicle and proof of auto insurance.
  • Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques up to fifty (50) lbs.; Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs;
  • Willing and physically able to work in environments that house common allergens such as domestic pets (dog, cat, bird), cigarette smoke, dust, dander.
A Day-to-Day Look at the Role
Light Cleaning Activities
  • Basic cleaning of sinks, toilets, baths, and showers.
  • Washing, drying, and putting away dishes.
  • Dusting and vacuuming the client’s primary living area.
  • Proper disposal of the client’s garbage, recycling, and organic / compost waste.
  • Organizing cupboards / drawers as directed, including kitchen, linen, and clothes storage.
  • Basic cleaning of large appliances, including wiping down and cleaning oven tops, stove elements, inside ovens, inside refrigerators, organizing the fridge, disposing of expired food, and clearing out dishwasher traps.
Meal Preparation
  • Collaborating with the client to plan and prepare meals.
  • Warming and serving prepared foods.
  • Assisting the resident with purchasing online groceries.
  • Light meal preparation, including chopping vegetables, reheating food, making sandwiches, etc.
Laundry
  • Machine washing and drying soiled / dirty laundry on appropriate settings.
  • Folding and putting away laundry as directed by the client (or a family member).
  • Changing linens and making beds.
What You Will Need to Succeed
  • Previous house cleaning experience and / or experience working with the elderly
  • Valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance, and access / use of a reliable vehicle
  • Certification as a Home Support Worker or Health Care Aide an asset
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Chest X-ray or negative 2-Step TB Skin Test (completed within the last 2 years).
  • Negative vulnerable sector police records check (completed within the last 6 months).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of basic cooking and cleaning techniques.
  • Respect for privacy and maintaining confidentiality within the household.
