Job summary

The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. BSF provides a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment for senior residents with complex needs. In Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role

The Health Care Aide is a member of a multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for providing direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort, and safety of residents, and indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area.

What You Will Do
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of resident needs
  • Observe and report unusual signs/symptoms and incidences to the professional nursing staff
  • Provide timely information to the supervising professional regarding observed changes in physical, mental or emotional status/behaviour
  • Participate in the care plan for residents
  • Recognize residents’ challenges related to vision, hearing, speech, and language and adapt practice to minimize these challenges
  • Document all care provided and behaviours noted on the appropriate forms and in the Point of Care (POC) system
  • Promote a healthy and safe practice environment by recognizing safety issues and reporting them immediately
