Whissell: Building more than a Job

Overview
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Gradesman to join our team. You will play a critical role in the construction of earthworks for infrastructure projects. This includes grading and leveling the ground to the specified design and ensuring that the work meets quality standards, safety regulations, and project deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction earthworks, excellent equipment handling skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team to meet project goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate grading equipment (e.g., motor graders, bulldozers) to level and contour soil for construction projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain the site for the construction of roads, foundations, drainage systems, and other infrastructure components by performing excavation and grading tasks.
  • Work alongside surveyors to ensure that grading is done according to design specifications and to the correct elevations. Take accurate measurements for alignment, slope, and grade levels.
  • Monitor and adjust the grading process to ensure the proper compaction of the earth to meet engineering requirements.
  • Regularly check the finished grading work to ensure it meets the required tolerance and quality standards. Report any issues or discrepancies to the site manager.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on grading machinery to ensure optimal functionality. Report any malfunctions or breakdowns promptly.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while operating heavy machinery. Ensure that the work site is maintained in a safe and organized manner to prevent accidents.
  • Work effectively with other earthworks team members, project managers, and engineers to ensure that grading tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of grading activities, machinery usage, and material quantities used on site.

Qualifications

  • Earthworks construction experience is required.
  • High attention to detail is required.
  • Pay to be determined by skill and experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all Company policies, OH & S Legislation, and WCB reporting procedures.
  • Understand and maintain quality and production standards and work to achieve established production goals.
  • Physically able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly as required in the construction environment.
  • Must have your own transportation.
  • Must have own steel-toes safety boots.
  • Seasonal, full-time, and weekends availability required.
