Job Description

Position Purpose Summary

This position works for the Food Bank. You must be able to provide support to the Food Bank and Thrift Store. Have organizational skills.

Key Accountabilities

Basic Functions / Responsibilities

  • Work with staff and direct volunteers reporting to the Community Ministries Director
  • Organize the warehouse; ensure rotation and that food is moved to the packing room and lobby in a timely manner
  • Ensure bins, floor, cooler, and freezer are cleaned daily and take out garbage
  • Ensure aisles, exits, and receiving area are clear
  • Ensure safe handling and use of dollies and carts when moving product; maintain social distancing, no eating, etc.
  • Ensure the freezer and coolers are organized so product is accessible and rotated; temperatures are recorded. Report any deficiencies to Manager
  • Ensure product is available to hamper packers
  • Schedule deliveries and deliver hampers when required
  • Transport large items to the dump
  • Work with recycling products
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Driving forklift required

Health & Safety

  • Ensure safe work practices when using all equipment
  • Ensure cleaning and housekeeping standards are met
  • Ensure all pickups and deliveries are done in a safe manner and recorded
  • The job requires the ability to walk, lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds; use of dollies, carts and pallet jacks

Working Conditions

Driving delivery vehicle to pick up food throughout the city; lifting up to 50 lbs at shoulder level often; pushing and pulling of food on pallet jack. Some truck driving and forklift operation. Represents The Salvation Army during pick up and drop off.

Education and Experience Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Certifications

  • Class 5 Driver License (Driver’s Abstract Required)
  • Grade 12 Preferred
  • Forklift operations certificate an asset (will train)

  • Be familiar with, and in agreement with, the Salvation Army Mission Statements
  • Be familiar with local Salvation Army ministries
  • Be able to deal with the public on a daily basis with a professional attitude suitable for positive customer service
  • Be able to lift and move heavy objects

  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work without constant supervision
  • A neat and clean appearance is expected

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $18.58 with a maximum of $22.29. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
