The Fleet & Heavy Equipment Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and managing our fleet of vehicles and equipment, ensuring optimal performance, safety and cost‑effectiveness.
This position is located in Mississauga, ON. What you’ll be working on:
Coordinating and scheduling regular maintenance and repairs for all vehicles and equipment in the fleet. This includes routine inspections, servicing, and addressing any issues to keep the fleet in optimal condition.
Involved in the process of acquiring new vehicles and equipment for the construction company. This can involve researching options, negotiating contracts with suppliers, and ensuring that new additions meet the company’s needs and standards.
Manage fuel usage, track expenses, and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
Develop and implement training programs for drivers and equipment operators.
Monitor fleet performance and optimize resource allocation to meet operational needs.
Handle the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment, including negotiation with suppliers.
Maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs.
Manage the budget for fleet operations and report on expenses.
Understand and adhere to Bird’s safety management system, policies, procedures, and values.
What we are looking for:
Post‑secondary education, such as a degree or diploma in a related field, and/or relevant combination of experience.
6+ experience in the fleet management role, preferably in the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices and regulatory requirements.
Excellent organizational skills and construction knowledge.
Ability to analyze data and make data‑driven decisions.
Good communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Evidence of exceptional leadership skills and ability to influence and work within informal teams.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with MS Office including MS Project.
