Your opportunity:

The Department of Statistical Sciences is one of the top ten statistics departments in North America, with our faculty developing numerous important innovations in statistical science. Our mission is to serve as a centre of excellence for statistical and actuarial research and education, across the campus, nationally and internationally. Research is centered on excellence in theory and methods, as many faculty members in the department have very successful collaborative research programs. Central to our vision for the next five years is to strengthen our national and international reputation in collaborative scientific activity, without compromising our core strengths.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on trust accounts
  • Generating standard financial reports
  • Analyzing and recommending improvements to financial processes and procedures
  • Troubleshooting and resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
Essential Qualifications:
  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and related financial and payroll experience, preferably in a university environment. Thorough knowledge of the University’s financial guidelines or other similar guidelines.
  • Experience processing and reconciling financial, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll records. Experience preparing standard financial reports.
  • Experience monitoring and reconciling budget and research grants. Experience processing expense reimbursements. Experience maintaining databases and producing reports. Experience maintaining financial files.
  • Experience with applying guidelines and procedures.
  • Advanced working knowledge with HRIS and FIS or other related financial and payroll systems. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access. Demonstrated working knowledge working with databases and producing reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines. A team player with excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, accuracy and detail oriented.
