Overview:

The NAM SERVICES organization seeks a highly skilled and proactive Field Railway Service Technician, known internally as the "Flying Doctor," to join our dynamic Business Excellence team in the North America (NAM) region. The successful candidate will support critical railway projects in Canada and in the US, particularly those in distress, ensuring seamless maintenance of train and wayside equipment, efficient introduction of new trains into service, and prompt troubleshooting of various railway systems (Train, Power and Com, Track, etc).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Support: Provide expert hands-on assistance to railway projects facing operational challenges, implementing effective solutions to mitigate disruptions and ensure timely project completion.
  • Maintenance of Equipment:Perform regular and emergency hands-on maintenance on train and wayside equipment, including diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and executing preventive maintenance procedures to ensure optimal safety and functionality.
  • Product Introduction:Facilitate the introduction of new trains into service by overseeing installation, conducting performance tests, training operating staff, and ensuring compliance with all safety and technical standards.
  • Troubleshooting:Quickly identify and resolve technical issues related to train and wayside equipment, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and methodologies to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Technical Documentation:Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, troubleshooting procedures, and project support details for accountability and future reference.
  • Training & Support: Could train local maintenance staff and provide ongoing technical support to ensure a high standard of equipment operation and safety.
  • Collaborative Work: Work closely with site managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand and address specific project needs and technical requirements.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all railway safety regulations and organizational EHS policies to ensure a safe working environment for all staff involved in railway operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s degree or technical diploma in a relevant field such as Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or Rail Technology. Equivalent hands-on experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience:Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in railway maintenance and service, with a strong emphasis on troubleshooting and project support.
  • Technical Skills:Expertise in railway systems and equipment (train and wayside), advanced diagnostic skills, and proficiency in maintenance software tools.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills essential for identifying and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Travel Availability:Willing and able to travel extensively across the NAM region to support various projects and maintenance needs.
  • Communication:Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Team Player:Ability to work effectively within a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Flexibility:Adaptability to changing project needs and schedules, with a proactive approach to tackling unforeseen challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications in railway maintenance or related technical fields.
  • Experience with specific railway software and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with NAM region railway regulations and standards.
