Position Summary

The Facilities Manager plans and directs all maintenance activities for the buildings and grounds of the Grand Rapids facility in support of company goals, utilizing available resources in the most efficient and effective manner while complying with time and budget constraints. Projects may be very large and have a significant impact on overall company goals. The Facilities Manager oversees all facility contractors, including HVAC, electrical, water, sewer, gas, janitorial, landscape, safety equipment, and security. This individual is responsible for cultivating a wide network of internal and external resources to facilitate the completion of tasks. They demonstrate advanced project management skills by acting as a project manager on large, conceptually defined projects. The Facilities Manager has direct reports that include Plant Services employees, collaboration with maintenance, millwrights and machine repair, as well as contractors and vendors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, and prioritizes daily work routines for the team to meet established schedules.
  • Demonstrates self-confidence, and ability to manage consultants, and contractors, while interfacing with multiple departments, working with internal manufacturing engineers, operation managers, and skilled trades and plant services to manage projects, policies and procedures.
  • Schedules and Directs Plant Services employees across 3 shifts with collaboration from off-shift supervisors.
  • Manages attendance and PTO for all Plant services employees.
  • Exercise authority and judgment within generally defined limits to determine appropriate action. Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays resulting in the allocation of additional resources or negatively affect significant business goals.
  • Responsible for contacting outside contractors and vendors to procure quotes regarding work that is required within this facility.
  • Exercising superior judgement when awarding work to outside contractors and vendors taking into account cost, quote work scope, and past contractor performance.
  • Holding outside contractors and vendors accountable for work scope and quality of work completed as stated on initial quote.
  • Initiating and completing Purchase Orders (POs) for expenditures within the facilities department in a timely manner.
  • Plans, organizes and drives Preventative Maintenance Schedule for all machines within the facility.
  • Develop a preventative maintenance program for equipment that does not have a specified program.
  • Ensure ongoing facility work stays within budget, investigate and pursue innovative ideas to reduce cost, improve quality, and increase productivity to support business objectives.
  • Supports maintenance and manufacturing engineering in troubleshooting issues, providing skilled trades services as needed to achieve goals.
  • Ability to analyze existing systems and collect data on building operations, plant layout, equipment, demand load, and usage in an effort to reduce the consumption of electricity, natural gas, water, and other resources in incremental stages.
  • Review project plans and specifications prior to bidding and inspect new construction and renovation work performed by outside contractors to ensure compliance with approved contract documents, policies, and standards.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform in a dynamic environment.
  • Highly organized and efficient in approaching tasks.
  • Strong team player, work ethic and commitment to win, self-starter with the ability to problem solve, anticipate, and avoid issues.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree – from a 4-year college or university along with 3+ years’ experience in a related field or 10 years’ experience in the related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including advanced skills in MS Excel. Oracle Experience is preferred.
  • Proficient with utilization of MPR or ERP.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
