PGL Environmental Consultants’ is seeking an Environmental Consultant to join our team. The employee will be based in our office in Calgary, AB. PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week, and all employees have the option to work from home or the office as and when needed.

This role will be joining our dynamic and growing team in Calgary. You will be the main contributor to our contaminated sites field work within the province of Alberta, with support through our other team members across British Columbia and Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapor sampling;
  • Drilling investigations (Phase II ESAs);
  • Environmental monitoring, including water quality sampling, construction supervision, and liaising with site personnel, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies;
  • Environmental excavation and remediation;
  • Budgeting, reporting;
  • Reviewing policies and systems; and
  • Contributing to PGL’s corporate initiatives.

You will be expected to supervise remediation and drilling contractors. Hands-on field experience will progress towards project management, directing others in the field and preparing reports. As your career develops, report writing and client contact will become important components of the position. Ideally, we are seeking candidates with strong people skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Job Requirements
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering (environmental, geological, chemical, geotechnical), Geology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, related engineering discipline or Toxicology.
  • 3 - 6 years of consulting experience in Alberta with exposure to contaminated site assessments.
  • Ability to register as a professional (in-training) in the Province of AB is an asset (EIT, GIT, AIT, etc.).
  • Comfortable working on job sites (including but not limited to construction sites, gas stations, around traffic and heavy equipment).
  • Experience with Phase I ESAs, soil and groundwater testing, and hydrogeology in Alberta.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Ground Disturbance is considered an asset.
  • Experience with contractor coordination and permitting for Phase II ESAs is considered an asset.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products. Knowledge of EsDat and gINT is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Excellent internal and external client service skills.
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • Ability to travel and work in potentially remote locations, generally in the province of AB.
  • Ability to work hours based on project requirements.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. for short durations.
