Overview

The Opportunity

JOB DESCRIPTION: Make your mark while you grow your career! Are you passionate about engineering in a world class mining facility? We are currently looking for a Tailings Planning Engineer to join our Albian Tailings Engineering team. In this role, you will be given the opportunity to showcase your expertise by supporting the evaluation, development, and execution of mine and tailings plans through collaboration with Canadian Natural Tailings Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance and Mine Technical Services groups.

Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Albian Oil Sands Site

Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 10-12 hour shifts

Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and communicate detailed tailings plans and schedules in support of the safe, reliable and cost-effective operations of Albian Oil Sands
  • Monitor stewardship to mine and tailings plans and to Canadian Natural’s regulatory requirements within those plans
  • Collaborate with the Tailings Operations, Geotechnical, Bitumen Production and Mine Planning teams to ensure plan optimization
  • Responsible for maintenance, operation and upkeep of the tailings model and reports
  • Maintain orderly data, perform consistent accurate calculations and use mine and tailings planning software to complete assigned tasks
  • Project identification, scope development, and support included in the mid and short range tailings plans
What You Bring To The Role
  • Degree in Mine, Geological or Civil Engineering
  • Registered with APEGA, or eligible to register
  • Previous experience in oil sands mining is preferred
  • Experience with tailings planning software such as Maptek Vulcan, and Minebridge Muk3D, is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
