Position Overview
Are you a creative problem solver, passionate about sustainability, and ready to shape the future of energy-efficient design?
Sense Engineering is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Energy Modeler to join our growing Mechanical team. Reporting to the Project Principal, you will work on high performance building projects and deliver sustainable design solutions for commercial, institutional, and residential structures. This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and innovation.
General Responsibilities

- Marketing: Represent Sense Engineering professionally, building positive relationships with clients, contractors and other consultants.
- Knowledge Development: Enhance your understanding of building science, life cycle analysis and costing while sharing insights and lessons learned with the team.
Technical Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver building energy simulations and performance analysis for new builds and retrofits, while actively leveraging input from in-house envelope and mechanical experts to deliver high quality, integrated solutions.
- Develop energy models in compliance with National and Provincial Energy Codes.
- Conduct life-cycle cost analyses to assess feasibility of strategies and develop energy conservation programs.
- Prepare detailed technical reports of findings and provide recommendations on project concept.
- Collaborate with clients and other engineering and architectural disciplines to develop decarbonization solutions that balance innovation with efficiency.
- Represent Sense at client meetings, industry events, and other networking functions.
- Commitment to continuous learning by staying updated with industry trends, codes, and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Occasional travel within Canada required, with the majority of projects to be within BC.
- Other duties as assigned/required.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in energy modelling and building performance analysis.
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
- Proficiency in energy simulation software such as IES-VE, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, and RETScreen Expert.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail coupled with a client-centric mindset.
- Commitment to creative thinking and approaching challenges from fresh perspectives, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the organization.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.

- Salary Range is $85,000 - $110,000 inclusive of an average profit-sharing bonus which is dependent upon performance.
