Lower Nicola Indian Band School is an inclusive, learner-centered independent school situated within the Interior of British Columbia. Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and reflective educator who is excited to integrate land-based learning into their classroom practice. The successful candidate will design learning experiences that cultivate literacy and numeracy while also advancing student success and stewardship of the land.
Key Responsibilities
· Design and deliver literacy and numeracy instruction through land-based, experiential learning opportunities that are culturally relevant and grounded in local context
· Foster strong relationships with community members, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to co-create authentic learning experiences
· Support the academic achievement and well-being of learners through inclusive and strengths-based practices
· Facilitate learning that fosters environmental awareness, critical thinking, and social responsibility
· Use ongoing assessment to guide instruction and support student growth
· Engage in professional development related to Indigenous education, land-based pedagogies, and inclusive practices
Qualifications and Experience
· Bachelor of Education degree and valid BC Teaching Certificate
· Experience in literacy and numeracy instruction in the elementary years
· Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and teaching
· Commitment to land-based learning and integrating outdoor, experiential education into the curriculum
· Proven ability to build inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environments
· Collaborative, flexible, and relational in approach
Assets
· Lived experience as an Indigenous person and/or strong connections to local Indigenous communities
· Experience working in a public and/or independent school setting
· Familiarity with the BC Curriculum, including Core and Curricular Competencies
· Background in place-based, outdoor, or environmental education
