Position Summary

The Director of Finance is an operational leader responsible for the effective management of the school’s financial and human resources systems. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director provides oversight, analysis, and compliance assurance across all financial and HR operations, and supports the Leadership Team in implementing initiatives aligned with Aberdeen Hall’s mission, values, and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Head of School and other leaders to develop and implement long‑term financial strategies.
  • Provide clear and timely reports, forecasts, and analyses to the Head of School for Board of Directors materials.
  • Oversee tuition revenue cash flow, capital project financing, and overall financial stability.
  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and external financial partners.
  • Oversee the full recruitment, onboarding, and off‑boarding process.
  • Serve as an HR point of contact for employee relations matters, including investigations into grievances and disciplinary issues.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and pension programs, ensuring compliance with employment standards and human‑rights legislation.
  • Develop and deliver HR training for managers and staff, manage the performance review cycle, and support succession planning and policy implementation.
  • Promote staff engagement, professional development, and a positive workplace culture aligned with school values.
  • Ensure compliance with ASPE, CRA charitable receipting, privacy data protection, and other applicable regulations.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to reduce financial and HR risks.
  • Execute and maintain all necessary HR documentation and records to meet legal and audit requirements.
  • Oversee compliance with government reporting, insurance, and employee‑related legislation.
  • Provide clear and timely reports and analyses to the Head of School for governance processes.
  • Implement Board‑approved financial and HR policies.
  • Prepare background analysis and documentation to support governance processes.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior finance or HR leadership role in a similar educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE, CRA regulations, and financial audit processes.
  • Excellent analytical, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, finance software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Outstanding communication, problem‑solving, and organizational abilities.
