Southbridge Care Homes is currently looking for an energetic enthusiastic Director of Care to provide leadership to the Nursing Team at our Home. This individual will ensure our residents receive quality care, a safe place to live and ongoing, respectful communication. The eligible individual will enhance the effective management of quality nursing practices in keeping with the standards and expectations set out by governing bodies, internal policies, and standards of care.

The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and passion for senior care by delivering high-quality leadership support to our homes.

Responsibilities
  • Leads in the coordination and implementation of best practices and risk management initiatives related to resident care needs and the Home.
  • Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level.
  • Ability to meet budgetary goals (budget restraints).
  • Effectively manages utilization of nursing supplies.
  • Collaboratively works with various members of the team to accomplish goals.
  • Presents an active presence/mentoring staff and overseeing the provision of quality care.
  • Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety. works with WSIB claims and return to work plans (preferred).
  • Able to initiate investigations/CIS’s/follow up with staff/families initiated to ensure risks are identified/addressed with interventions/documentation updated/ongoing diligence with Home/MOL is completed as per the regulations.
  • Assumes responsibility for the nursing department.
  • Is knowledgeable concerning the MOH Regulations and the FLTC Act.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and/or, if there are none, prevailing practices
  • Understanding of human resource and financial management
  • Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety concepts and requirements
  • Current C.P.R. designation is required.
  • All applicants must successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Check completed within 6 months of hire date.
  • TB skin test or Chest X-ray - completed within 1 year of hire date.
