Job description
The Opportunity
  • We’re looking for a Director, Finance who combines strong people leadership, technical expertise, and a builder’s mindset to lead the day-to-day finance and accounting operations, design scalable systems and processes, and actively develop team capability and confidence for Trace’s next stage of growth. The role partners closely with the VP, Business Integration to shape the future of our finance function and connect the numbers to the stories driving our business forward.
Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Development
    • Coach, mentor, and guide Finance and Accounting team members to grow their technical depth, confidence andownership.
    • Create a learning-focused environment that encourages collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide clarity in roles, responsibilities and expectations through documented processes and ongoing feedback.
    System and Process Optimization
    • Provide the leadership and discipline needed to shift from ad-hoc workarounds to sustainable, consistent systems and documented best practices.
    • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance accuracy, reduce manual effort, and enable scalability AR, AP, and project accounting.
    • Establish strong documentation practices that make processes clear, repeatable, and transferable.
    • Act as the business owner for Deltek Vantagepoint and other finance systems, ensuring alignment between configuration, process, and reporting needs.
    Financial Operations and Reporting
    • Lead the day-to-day financial operations, establishing clear expectations and reinforcing high standards for review quality, accuracy, consistency, and accountability across the full accounting cycle, including AR, AP, billing, and general ledger.
    • Collaborate to address root-cause issues in transactional accounting, reconciliations, and Vantagepoint configuration.
    • Build team capability in accounting fundamentals, reconciliations, and process ownership.
    • Ownership of financial reporting and operational finance oversight as systems and team capability mature.
    Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and Business Insight
    • Collaborate on the build-out of Vena for reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
    • Lead budget cycles, financial modeling, and variance analysis, developing a forward-looking FP&A function that supports Trace’s strategic priorities.
    • Build team capability to produce timely, meaningful reports that connect operational metrics to financial outcomes and strengthen financial literacy across the organization.
About You and Your Qualifications
  • CPA designation (required) with 12+ years of progressive experience, including leadership in a professional servicesenvironment.
  • Proven success in building and leading teams with a balance of accountability and trust.
  • Proven ability to develop people, fostering growth, accountability, and confidence through coaching, training, mentorship and clear expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement financial processes, systems, and controls.
  • Strong technical foundation in ASPE/IFRS, financial reporting, and operational accounting.
  • Natural collaborator who communicates with clarity, builds relationships, and thrives in a values-driven organization.
  • A calm, solutions-oriented presence, someone who builds trust, steadiness, and clarity even during change.
  • Comfort with Deltek Vantagepoint, Power BI, and Excel-based FP&A or forecasting tools (Vena or equivalent) is anasset.
