Qualifications

About the Role

IMDEX Limited is seeking a Field Technician – Directional Drilling to support safe, efficient, and accurate drilling operations in remote, camp-based environments. This role provides on-site technical expertise and supervision across directional drilling activities, ensures compliance with safety and project standards, and acts as a key liaison between drill crews, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

The position operates on a 28/14 rotational roster and requires extended work periods at remote mine-site camps.

Key Responsibilities
Directional Drilling Preparation
  • Inspect, adjust, and prepare DeviDrill tools before and after each cut
  • Coordinate movement and setup of directional drilling and survey tools
  • Instruct drill crews on tool handling, lowering procedures, and rod pulling
  • Conduct rod counts and ensure accurate depth marking
  • Perform and monitor water tests and inspect tools for leaks
Directional Drilling Supervision
  • Perform tool orientation and monitor drilling progress and parameters
  • Troubleshoot in-hole drilling issues in collaboration with drill operators
  • Conduct borehole surveys and track corrections
  • Document drilling parameters, survey results, and corrections
  • Determine when corrections are complete and direct drill crew actions
Surveying and Data Management
  • Run borehole surveys and QA/QC tests on survey equipment
  • Process and integrate survey data and hole traces
  • Assess drill distances and directional inputs as required
  • Update project planning documents to reflect operational or client-driven changes
Reporting and Communication
  • Complete daily shift reports and bi-weekly drilling reports
  • Accurately record material usage, serial numbers, and inventory counts
  • Communicate drilling progress, concerns, and issues to clients, contractors, and management
Shop Duties and Equipment Maintenance
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace parts as required
  • Maintain correction and maintenance logs
  • Order parts and materials as needed
  • Maintain clean, organized shop, vehicles, and equipment
Leadership, Safety, and Compliance
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and respectful communication
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and comply with QHSE requirements
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, and quality alerts
  • Comply with IMDEX risk, compliance, and Code of Conduct standards
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a field technician or similar role within drilling or mining
  • Hands-on experience with directional drilling tools and technologies
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work extended rotations in remote, camp-based environments
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Willing and able to work a 28 days on / 14 days off roster
