Position

The Dietary Aide reports to the Food Service Manager / Food Service Supervisor and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by preparing meals directed by the cook for individual residents and by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization\'s vision and mission.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in departmental and town hall meetings
  • Receive verbal / written endorsements regarding changes in resident status
  • Ensure open communication between staff and other team members
  • Encourage participation in the home\'s committees / teams
  • Report observations to the Food Service Manager / Supervisor relating to resident care and others (food preferences, likes & dislikes, intake)
  • Mentor new staff and students
  • Support and promote a team approach
  • Deliver ongoing customer service with staff, residents, families, and the general public
  • Ensure optimal quality of life for each resident by delivering individualized resident care
  • Report faulty equipment and ensure removal from unit
  • Complete documentation records of every shift (food temperature, freezer, fridge, sanitizer, dish machine, equipment checklist audit)
  • Understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and participate in improving the indicators to achieve satisfactory results
  • Utilize equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints
  • Other duties as assigned and/or indicated in the Job Task Inventory
Qualifications
  • Preference given to candidates that have successfully completed or are enrolled in a Food Service Worker program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a Food Services Worker program provided by a private career college (preferred)
  • Or have successfully completed an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the applicable acts (preferred)
  • Or have entered into a registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the applicable acts (preferred)
  • Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home, possess appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service
  • Food Handler Certification from Public Health or a certified agency
  • Previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments
  • Able to work flexible hours, including in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Public Health and Home\'s rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills and a person-centered, customer-focused approach
  • Ability to promote individuals\' rights and measure/reduce elements of risk
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months) and recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or chest X-ray (within the last year)
  • Two supervisory references required
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines; vaccination requirements are subject to change by the Employer
